Broken Line Sends Wastewater to Stream at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant
Posted: January 7, 2010

MIDDLETOWN - A line to the wastewater treatment plant at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown broke Thursday, sending wastewater to a stream.

A four inch line that transfers water from a coal pile runoff pond to the treatment plant broke. As a result, an estimated 80,000 gallons of untreated water from the runoff pond reached a stream that flows into Mathes Lake, located on the plant grounds.

Plant staff shut off the pump from the pond when they discovered the line break Thursday afternoon, and is repairing the pipe.
