City of Audubon Bypassing Due to Power Outage
Posted: January 20, 2010

AUDUBON - The city of Audubon lost power earlier today, resulting in a wastewater bypass from a pumping station on the west side of town.

The city used back-up power to keep the treatment plant running, but while power has been partially restored to the city, the power levels are not high enough to prevent bypassing at the pumping station. Untreated wastewater is flowing into a ditch, then running about 50 feet and into Blue Grass Creek.

No estimates are available on quantity yet, but the city has taken water samples and will provide test results and an estimate of the amount bypassed based on normal flows to the DNR.

The DNR will require the city to provide emergency pumping capabilities.
