Exira Discharges Wastewater to East Nishnabotna River
Posted: June 5, 2009

EXIRA - The city of Exira in Audubon County reported a wastewater discharge to the DNR Friday.

The city's wastewater operator found a leak in a force main, which has resulted in untreated wastewater discharging to the East Nishnabotna River. The city does not know when the discharge began or how much wastewater has reached the river. The leaking force main is located in the west bank of the river, just northeast of the treatment plant.

Currently, the city is looking into installing a clamp on the force main to stop the discharge.

The DNR may consider possible enforcement action.
