Wastewater Discharge at Des Moines Hotel Reaches Stream
Posted: June 17, 2009

DES MOINES - A wastewater pumping station at a Des Moines hotel failed Wednesday morning, sending untreated wastewater to a Beaver Creek tributary.

The pumping station at the EconoLodge at 4755 Merle Hay Road discharged an estimated 240 gallons, which ran into a storm sewer that leads to the stream. The discharge began around 8:45 a.m. and ended around 11:00 a.m.

Wastewater staff from the city of Des Moines reported the discharge, on behalf of the hotel, to the DNR Wednesday at noon.

The parking lots at the EconoLodge and a nearby car dealership have been cleaned up, and the Des Moines Water Works has been notified of the discharge.
