Decorah Resident Recognized for Timber Work
Posted: December 1, 2009

Kevin Sand, of Decorah, has been named the 2009 Iowa Woodland Owner of the Year for his work to improve the quality of his timber for wildlife, recreational opportunities and as an investment for the future.

Greg Heidebrink, district forester with the Iowa DNR from Charles City, said Sand has focused much of his energy over the years on improving not only his woodlands, along with all the woodlands in northeast Iowa.

"He's been a great asset to the forestry community," Heidebrink said. "He has been instrumental in encouraging friends, co-workers and anyone who will listen on the importance of good forest management to take an interest in their forests."

The award, created by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, will be presented at the Dec. 2 - 3, annual meeting of the Conservation Districts of Iowa, in Ames.
