Shade Tree Information Available on New Website
Posted: December 18, 2007
DES MOINES - How do I take care of my tree damaged by the recent ice storm? How do I hire an arborist? What type of tree should I plant next spring to replace the one lost in a storm? How often should I water the newly planted tree in my front yard? When is the best time to prune my oak tree? Are you looking for answers to tree questions like these? If you are seeking information on shade trees, there is a new website located at
shadetrees.iowadnr.gov that provides linkages to updated information on shade trees and tree care.
“This website was designed with the homeowner in mind, and I think people will find that they’re able to get a lot of good information and answers to common tree questions,” said Mark Vitosh, district forester.
The new shade tree information website is a cooperative effort between the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry Bureau, Iowa State University Forestry Extension, and the US Forest Service. There are six main areas of shade tree information provided on the website: Tree Selection, Emerald Ash Borer, Tree Planting, Tree Care & Pruning, Tree Health, and Tree Identification.
There are many different websites that provide good tree information, and the goal of this site is to provide a clearinghouse of shade tree information for homeowners that will assist them with the proper management and care of their trees.
