Iowa DNR Interactive Mapping, Water Web Help Files
Navigating the Water Web Map with User-Defined Locations:
A user might want to zoom directly to a specific county, or a township - range - section, or possibly a UTM X,Y map coordinate. Directly above the Water Web Map is a
Zoom To feature. In the dropdown by the Zoom To text is a list of location types to zoom on. Select one from the list, like Legal Description, and type the appropriate value in the open field to the right of the
By text. Finally, click the Go link to zoom to your value on the map. Look at the example below:
Make sure you follow the example provided in the dropdown when typing in your value. Both Legal Description and X,Y Coordinate zoom searches follow a
strict format for entering values. Also, the X,Y Coordinate zoom search only accepts X and Y values as eastings and northings in the
Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projection using North American Datum 1983 Zone 15 North (EPSG Code: 26915). To learn more about map projections, visit the
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Map Projections website.
Beside the ability to zoom to a user-specified Legal Description, County, or UTM Coordinate, you can also zoom to the
Default Map Extent of the map (if you want to go back quickly to the state scale). The dropdown also lets you zoom to the
Previous Map Extent, in case you want to go back to your last zoom area.
