Iowa DNR Interactive Mapping, Help Files
Watershed Atlas
In an effort to make information on watersheds more readily available to the public, the IDNR has developed the Watershed Atlas interactive mapping website. Our goal in developing this site is to provide a mechanism where individuals, agencies, or organizations can readily obtain a variety of information and GIS data on watersheds from their personal computer, without having specialized GIS software. All geographic features, including the 8, 10, and 12-digit HUCs are represented in this site. The 2002 color infrared air photography is available for the entire state, as well as 1:24K topographic maps. Grids such as elevation, hillshade, soil loss, percent slope, corn suitability rating, highly erodible land, hydric soil, and land cover are also available. New to the Atlas, the Soils layer, developed primarily from the County SSURGO Soils files is available state-wide on this site.
With the Watershed Atlas you also have the ability to spatially link to the
Iowa Lakes database and the
Iowa River Information Systems (IRIS) database by using the identify or hyperlink tool on all lake and stream (NHD) features. Watershed statistic data from the
Watershed Initiative website is also available by using the identify or hyperlink tool on all 8 and 10-digit watershed features.
