Hydrogeologic Atlas

Hydrogeologic Atlas

This application is a compilation of statewide maps contained in Miscellaneous Map Series 3 (Mississippian), 6 (Jordan) and 10 (Silurian-Devonian) published by the Iowa Geological Survey (IGS). The Map Series were the result of investigations by the IGS and USGS to evaluate the major bedrock aquifers of Iowa, and present information on the occurrence, movement, availability, use, and chemical quality of the groundwater from the major bedrock aquifers in Iowa. The information is organized by aquifer, and divided into three subject headings of geology, hydrology, and water quality. Well locations can be clicked on to view well information and associated water quality analyses, and wells are linked by w-number to the IGS geologic sample database (GEOSAM) to provide access to associated strip logs and driller logs.

These atlases were converted into a digital format to archive them and to make the information more accessible and compatible with other GIS data. The maps may be useful for preliminary geologic and hydrologic site assessment and well forecasting. The original Map Series map sheets are available in PDF format in Other NRGIS Data (map room) and ArcView® coverages are available in State-wide Data (hydrologic) in the IGS Natural Resources Geographic Information System (NRGIS) Library.
