Iowa Anaerobic Digester Asset Mapping Tool

Welcome to the Waste Management Bureau's Iowa Anaerobic Digester Asset Mapping Tool. This tool was designed to assist the IDNR and its partners with the identification of Iowa sites that have large quantities of co-digestible feedstocks as well as industries that are large energy users.

Iowa's livestock and food processing industries provide tremendous economic benefit to the state; however, managing the waste streams from these industries economically, while mitigating environmental risks and negative societal perceptions, is a growing challenge. Through anaerobic digestion processes, manure, food processing wastes, and other industrial organic waste streams can be converted to renewable energy and valuable fertilizers. The biogas recovered from the process can be used to fuel large industrial processes or to generate electricity and thermal energy for community use. The recovered nutrients can be land applied or used as soil amendments.
