Select Features on Map by Box:
- Make a layer active.
- In the Toolbar place your mouse over the select box icon
and a small pop-up message will tell you the function of the tool.
- Click the icon. A thin red line will appear around the icon
- Move your mouse cursor to the
Interactive Map. The cursor will change from a white pointer arrow to a thin black cross.
- With the mouse cursor, drag out a box to select features of the active layer. To drag out a box hold down your left mouse button while you drag. Release the left mouse button to finish the box. The Interactive Map will select features in the active layer that are contained within the yellow box that you just created. Look below to see what it looks like when you drag out a box:

When you finish creating the rectangle, the selected features of the active layer within the box will turn bright yellow on the Interactive Map. The attributes of these selected features will display in a new window.
In the above example, the Towns layer was made active. Three towns were selected using the Select by Box tool. The attributes of these three towns were displayed in an attribute table in the
Information Bar.
- In the attribute table that appears, you can zoom to individual features or all features. To zoom to individual features on the Interactive Map, click the hyperlinked numbers under the "Zoom To" column. To zoom to all of the selected features, click the "Zoom to these records" hyperlink below the attribute table.
- To clear the Interactive Map and start selecting features again, or to finish using the Select by Box tool, click the
Clear Selection button.
