Iowa DNR Interactive Mapping, Help Files

Overview Map:

The Overview Map is located in the upper left corner of the Interactive Map. A yellow rectangle is displayed at all times on the Overview Map to show the extent and location of your zoom on the Interactive Map. If you are zoomed into Lee county in the southeastern tip of the state of Iowa on the Interactive Map, a yellow rectangle will be displayed in that portion of the Overview Map. The scale of the Overview Map never changes; it is always zoomed to the full extent of the state. You can use your mouse to click on the Overview Map and it will automatically zoom to that area on the Interactive Map at the same scale. For example, if you were zoomed in to Lee county at a scale of 1:150,000, and you click on the Overview Map on Allamakee county, the Interactive Map will change to the point clicked in Allamakee county at a scale of 1:150,000.

To turn the visibility of the Overview Map off or back on, you need to select the Show/Hide Overview Map icon.
