FREE PRODUCT REPORTS
In many cases monthly free product recovery reports have become extremely
cumbersome. In an effort to reduce the amount of paper the department must
process, store, and archive we are requesting that groundwater professionals
evaluate future free product recovery reports for the possibility of paper
reduction. The following are our recommendations:
- Limit the historical data in the report to the most recent 18-24 months
(provided older data is available in previous submittals). A minimum of 12
month’s data should be included to allow for review of seasonal groundwater
and product variation (starting a "new" page and including only data for the
reporting month is not acceptable).
- Request quarterly reporting when applicable. Sites with minimal or stable
amounts of recovery are good candidates. Unless a variance is granted, sites
submitting quarterly reporting must continue monthly free product recovery.
- A separate, typed cover page attached to free product recovery reports is
not necessary unless a change in recovery activity is requested or reported. A
complete Free Product Recovery Report title page containing site information
and appropriate signatures is adequate.
- In the event a monthly recovery report is not submitted, do not send two
reports together the following month. A single report containing data from
both months is sufficient.
- Although periodic monitoring of additional wells for free product is
encouraged, monthly reporting for wells which have never indicated the
presence of free product in the past is unnecessary.
