Defining Statewide Standards and the Cumulative Risk Calculator

Q:  What is the Cumulative Risk Calculator?

A:  The "cumulative risk calculator” is a tool for determining compliance with cumulative risk criteria in the LRP. The cumulative risk calculator can assess risk to potentially exposed parties, based on three standard exposure scenarios, from multiple contaminants and multiple media (i.e., groundwater, soil, and air). The cumulative risk calculator enables the user to select the potentially exposed party and enter site-specific contaminant concentrations for each medium that the exposed party may come in regular contact.

Q: What are Statewide Standards?

A: “Statewide standards” are standards prescribed in the LRP which represent concentrations of contaminants in groundwater and soil for which normal, unrestricted exposure is considered unlikely to pose a threat to human health.
