Lynn County Wastewater Discharge at Lisbon
Posted: 07/01/2014

The Lisbon wastewater treatment plant in Linn County has flooded twice in two days, an impact of flash flood waters. All activated sludge from the treatment basins and digester washed away.

The plant is discharging untreated wastewater from the treatment basin to an unnamed stream which flows to Spring Creek, a tributary to the Cedar River.

The DNR will stay appraised of the situation until the plant is back in full operation. The public should stay away from this area and avoid flood waters.

The wastewater plant operator reported disinfection equipment and other mechanicals are in working order. The main issue is the treatment plant may not be fully effective until the natural, biological processes have had time to reactivate.
