Environmental Protection Commission's April 15 Agenda
Posted: 04/03/2014

One contract, a special presentation, and two referrals to the Attorney General are on the agenda for the state Environmental Protection Commission April 15. Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m., at the DNR’s Air Quality office, 7900 Hickman Road in Windsor Heights.

The contract up for a decision is with the University of Iowa on behalf of the State Hygienic Laboratory for the collection and analysis of water monitoring samples at Black Hawk Lake. The water monitoring samples will determine if the in-lake and watershed management strategies to reduce pollution in Black Hawk Lake have been effective.

The special presentation focuses on the outcomes of the Iowa Food Waste Reduction Project carried out by the Iowa Waste Reduction Center at the University of Northern Iowa.

In other action, the DNR Air Quality Bureau will request permission to make rule changes to add best management practices for vacuuming grain out of storage structure, as well as adopting revised federal air toxics standards for chemical manufacturing plants and for prepared feeds manufacturing.

The meeting is open to the public and public comments are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.  At 11:30 a.m. the referral to the Attorney General for enforcement action for manure application violations by BCB AG, LLC will be heard. At 1 p.m. the referral to the Attorney General for enforcement action for animal feeding operation violations by Matt Hoffman will be presented.
