Small Wastewater Discharge in Grimes
Posted: 04/02/2014

– The city of Grimes has a small ongoing discharge of untreated wastewater that developed while replacing a pump late Wednesday afternoon.

When two pumps failed at the same location, the city worked to replace one, hauling incoming wastewater to the city’s sewage treatment plant. As the flow increased, the city could not keep up with the incoming flow.

An unknown, but small, amount of wastewater is occasionally discharging to an unnamed creek. The creek flows to the lake at Cutty’s Des Moines Camping Club, then to North Walnut Creek.

City crews hope to have the lift station repaired Wednesday evening.

The DNR will continue to monitor the situation.
