Boil Advisory in Effect for City of Attica
ATTICA – A boil advisory for the city of Attica in Marion County has been imposed after Pershing Utility had a main break and the line was shut down for repair.
Shutting down the line for repair could potentially allow bacterial contamination. Flushing and special bacterial sampling will follow the repair.
The DNR cautions residents of Attica to boil their drinking water until test results show the water is safe to drink.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute. Let it cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation. Untreated water can be used for bathing and similar purposes.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Bacteria in the water may pose greater health risks for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.
Call the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 for more information.
The DNR is working with the water supply to ensure drinking water is safe. After water samples have tested clean for bacteria, the water supply will lift the advisory.
