Posted: 07/17/2012
The public is invited to celebrate the beautiful and historic Turkey River on August 11, at Turkey River Rocks! This special day of river activities begins in Elkader and ends downstream at the Motor Mill historic site.

“We are excited to help host this event that will feature the unique attractions found along our stretch of the new Turkey River Trail,” says Roger Thomas, of Main Street Elkader, one of the local sponsors. “Turkey River Rocks! will be a wonderful day of fun and education about our area that will show off our natural and cultural resources.”

Registration and shuttle service begins at 9 a.m. at Elkader City Park. A program begins at 10 a.m., followed by a scenic three-hour paddle from Elkader to the historic Motor Mill site. At Motor Mill, there will be interpretive tours, displays and a post-float party with a locally produced meal and entertainment by the band Kindred Minds. After dark, campers at Motor Mill will be able to see the Perseid Meteor Showers.
A $20 per person fee includes paddling insurance, evening meal and music, and camping at Motor Mill. Early signups by July 24 are encouraged to qualify for a free t-shirt and to be guaranteed a meal.
