Nine Boat Operators Charged with BWI During Operation Dry Water
Posted: 07/03/2012
DES MOINES – The June 22-24 boating safety check, Operation Dry Water, made contact with more than 540 vessels and nearly 2,100 boaters, producing nine boating while intoxicated charges and 136 boating citations or warnings on seven Iowa waters.

The most common citation was for not maintaining a proper speed or distance while operating a vessel.
The Iowa DNR and partnering agencies increased boat patrols on the Mississippi River at the Quad Cities, Coralville Reservoir, Saylorville Reservoir, North Twin Lake, Storm Lake, Missouri River, and Mississippi River near Dubuque, during Operation Dry Water.

With the July 4 holiday falling on a Wednesday, the Iowa DNR will continue its increased lake patrols through the weekend.

The Fourth of July holiday is the busiest time for boating on Iowa waters.
