Peregrine Falcon Banding in Des Moines, Davenport

Three young peregrine falcons will be banded at 10 a.m., May 30, at the American Republic building, 605 Fifth Ave., in Des Moines, by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR will band three more falcons at 2 p.m., May 31, at the MidAmerican Energy building, 106 East Second St., in Davenport.

There are 16 nesting pairs of peregrine falcons across the state, including three wild nesting pairs on the cliffs in northeast Iowa.

A new falcon territory on a cliff in Allamakee County was added this year bringing the total number of territories in Iowa to 15.  Falcon sites include Cedar Rapids, three in Allamakee County, McGregor, Dubuque, two in Clinton, two in the Quad Cities, Louisa, Burlington, Chillicothe and two in Des Moines.
