Bellevue's Ohlert Wins World Archery Title
Posted: 07/09/2013
Bellevue has a world champion.

Josh Ohlert won the National Archery in the School Program's World Championship in St. Louis, scoring of 298 out of a possible 300. The tournament, held June 28-30, hosted 3,000 of the best archers from 22 states and two Canadian provinces.

2013 was a special year for Ohlert. He set a state record by scoring of 298 out of a possible 300 in a tournament in Alburnett. During the state tournament in February, he qualified for the national tournament, in Louisville, Ky.

Ohlert placed second at nationals, held in May, qualifying him for the world tournament in St. Louis.

Ohlert, along with Tymbre Snobel, a junior this fall at Alburnett High School, and 14 other top finishers from the national tournament, qualified for the first ever traveling All American Team of student archers that will compete in Johannesburg, South Africa. The team will leave July 21 for 10 days.

Ohlert qualified for state and national championship tournaments in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2103.  In 2012, he won the State Championship and finished tied for 17th in the National Championship.  He graduated from Bellevue this spring.

Another eastern Iowa archer is making a name for himself.

Andrew Swartz, a 5th grader and member of the Bellevue Archery Club, qualified for state, national and world tournaments.  He placed 5th in both the state and national tournaments. It was Swartz’s first year in the competition.
