Bald Eagle Events Begin Jan 5

Clinton Bald Eagle Watch, Lock and Dam 13, Jan. 5, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Clinton Community College will have exhibits from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and host live bird and nature programs from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free bus service is available from the college to the viewing area. For more information, call 815-259-3628.

Quad Cities Bald Eagle Days, QCCA Expo Center, Rock Island, Ill., Jan. 11 – 12
QCCA will host live eagle and bird of prey programs by the World Bird Sanctuary, special attractions, a wildlife art show and sale and environmental fair. The event is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Jan. 5, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 6. For more information, contact the Mississippi River Visitor Center at 309-794-5338, or Arlynn Hartwig at 309-788-2543.

Ottumwa Bald Eagle Watch, Bridge View Center, Jan. 12
The environmental fair is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This event will feature a program, displays, a hike along the Des Moines River and eagle watching. Spectacular view of eagles flying and feeding on the Des Moines River from both inside and outside Bridge View. Free admission, donations welcome. For more information, call 641-682-8626 or go to

Mississippi River Visitor Center, Arsenal Island, Weekends, Jan. 14 to Feb. 12
Eagle watching and historic clock tours depart from Arsenal Island at Rock Island, Ill., Saturdays and Sundays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information, contact Visitor’s Center Staff at 309-794-5338. Reservations are recommended as group size is limited.

Dubuque Bald Eagle Watch, A.Y. McDonald Park, Jan. 19
The Grand River Center at the Port of Dubuque will have indoor exhibits from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The World Bird Sanctuary will offer live eagle and bird of prey programs at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. Trolley rides are available to take visitors from the Grand River Center to the outdoor viewing area. Keokuk Bald Eagle Days, River City Mall, in Keokuk, Jan. 19-20
The River City Mall, in Keokuk, will have indoor programs and an environmental fair. Live eagle programs are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 19 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Jan. 20. Eagle viewing will take place along the river front. For more information, call 1-800-383-1219.

Red Rock Bald Eagle Watch, Howell Station below Lake Red Rock, Jan. 25-26
Indoor programs will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central College in the Graham Conference Center, 812 University St., Pella.  Outdoor viewing is at Howell Station, below Lake Red Rock from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 641-828-7522.

New Event – Coralville Bald Eagle Watch, Coralville Dam Spillway, Feb. 9
Outdoor viewing will be held at the Coralville Dam spillway. Indoor programs will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 319-338-3543 ext. 6308.

Effigy Mounds Bald Eagle Watch, Prairie du Chien Visitors Center, Feb. 23
Outdoor viewing is available at the Prairie du Chien Visitors Center on the River from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For more information, call 563-873-3491.

Saylorville Bald Eagle Watch, February 24
Start at Visitor’s Center to find outdoor viewing at selected sites around the reservoir. The event is from Noon to 4 p.m.  For more information call 515-276-4656.

Sioux Rapids Bald Eagle Watch, March 23
Outdoor viewing is available at select sites starting in Linn Grove at the nature center on Main St. Registration is 8:30 to 10 a.m., speakers are 10 a.m. to noon.
