Western Iowa Minor Source Emission Inventory Reports Due May 15
Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Minor source facilities located in the western third of Iowa must submit their Minor Source Emission Inventory (MSEI) for calendar year 2011 emissions to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Air Quality Bureau by May 15, 2012.

Letters have been sent to all facilities required to complete this year’s report. A complete air pollutant inventory is required by Iowa Administrative Code (567) sub rule IAC 21.1(3). Air pollutant emission inventories are fundamental to the development of control and maintenance strategies required by the Clean Air Act to meet national standards. The data collected is also used to identify emission levels and trends throughout the state.

Reporting forms and updated instructions can be downloaded by clicking here or by going to www.iowacleanair.com, click on Emissions Inventory on the left hand side of the page, and clicking on Minor Sources on the right hand side of the page.

You may also wish to visit the Emission Estimate Tools page by clicking here or by going to http://www.iowacleanair.com, click on Emissions Inventory on the left hand side and on go to Emissions Estimate Tools by using the drop down menu. This webpage provides a list of frequently used emissions inventory resources which may assist in completing the MSEI report.

Facilities may also choose to submit the MSEI electronically through the State Permitting and Air Reporting System (SPARS). For more information regarding SPARS, please visit http://www.iowadnr.gov/InsideDNR/RegulatoryAir/SPARS.aspx

Minor source facilities with less than 100 employees may also contact the Iowa Air Emissions Assistance Program (IAEAP) at the University of Northern Iowa for training in order to complete the MSEI. For more information regarding training through the IAEAP, please visit http://msei.iwrc.org.
