Wastewater Release in Chariton
CHARITON – A resident reported untreated wastewater coming out of a manhole near Third St. and York Avenue in Chariton Wednesday morning.
The city cleared the sewage pipe and restored the normal flow to the wastewater treatment plant around 12:30 p.m., estimating that 3,000 gallons of wastewater had flowed into the dry channel of Little Whitebreast Creek. The wastewater flowed north through Brook Park.
Residents are encouraged to keep children and pets out of the creek channel for at least 48 hours. The city is liming the area where wastewater flowed overland to the creek bed.
