Gipp, Northey, Hubbert to Speak at Black Hawk Lake Water Quality Kickoff Event
Posted: 06/28/2012
LAKE VIEW – DNR Director Chuck Gipp will be on hand July 7 as the Black Hawk Lake Water Quality Project hosts an event to kickoff its watershed improvement efforts. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. in Lake View at the open shelter at Town Bay.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and Jon Hubbert, Natural Resources Conservation Service assistant state conservationist for operations, will join Gipp and Black Hawk Lake Protective Association members in discussing the project and efforts to improve water quality.

“Working for cleaner water in Black Hawk Lake is a priority for area residents and for many local, state and federal conservation groups and agencies,” said T.J. Lynn, who leads the water quality project. “The project, made possible with grants, will work with farmers, landowners and residents to reduce erosion and phosphorus transport to Black Hawk Lake.”

In addition, the event will offer a demonstration of fish population sampling techniques by local DNR Fisheries staff and presentations on soil conservation efforts in the watershed, water quality testing and algae blooms.

The event is hosted by the Sac and Carroll county soil and water conservation districts. In the event of inclement weather the meeting will be moved to the American Legion Hall at 310 Madison St. in Lake View.
