Sept. 19 Water Summary Update Released
Although better than a year ago at this time, Iowa has had below normal precipitation and most of the state ranges from abnormally dry to experiencing moderate to severe drought.
Central Iowa is near or at historic low levels for shallow groundwater. Stream flows vary according to the immediate area of sporadic rainfall, but overall they are in below normal levels.

The report is prepared by the technical staff from the Iowa DNR, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, and the US Geological Survey, in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division.
