Fairfield's New Automated Wastewater System Shuts Down Bypassing 459,000 Gallons to Crow Creek
FAIRFIELD – The city of Fairfield bypassed 459,000 gallons to Crow Creek March 10 when the new computerized wastewater system shut down. People and pets are advised to stay clear of the area for another 24 hours.
The backup system ― used before the programmable system was put in place ― is running the facility. A computer expert is investigating why the new system shut down.
Fairfield, like several cities in southeast Iowa, are experiencing a number of bypasses due to the rain and snowmelt overwhelming collection systems.
