National Safe Boating Week May 19 - 25
Always wear a lifejacket while on the water is the message of a week-long safe boating campaign beginning May 19.
To promote wearing lifejackets and the comfort of the new inflatable lifejackets, a global effort, called “Ready, Set, Wear it!”, has a goal of setting a new world record for the most lifejackets worn and the most inflatable life jackets inflated at one time.
Those wanting to participate are asked to go to the Saylorville Marina on May 19 at 10 a.m. The marina is at 6170 NW Polk City Drive, Polk City.
“Ready, Set, Wear it!” allows participants to practice inflating their lifejackets and re-arming techniques of inflatable lifejackets. Youth participants can contribute to a coloring activity that will be used for a custom colored boating safety t-shirt for each of the participating youth.
The Iowa DNR and the Des Moines Sail and Power Squadron will be offering boating safety information.
