Small Wastewater Discharge in Cherokee
The city of Cherokee had a small wastewater release Thursday after a relief valve failed on a force main.
The city discovered the leak Thursday morning and found a small amount of untreated wastewater entered a storm sewer that flows into the Little Sioux River. Most of the wastewater soaked into the ground.
The city completed repairs about 2 p.m. Thursday and estimates several hundred gallons flowed to the storm sewer. City staff will lime the area where wastewater pooled.
The DNR will continue to monitor the situation.
