Derailed Train Ethanol Cars Removed from Little Cedar River
Posted: 05/23/2013
The three ethanol cars were removed today from the Little Cedar River east of  Charles City and are being analyzed to determine the amount of ethanol released.

Continuous stream monitors installed a half mile and 5 miles downstream by a consulting company continue to show normal oxygen levels in the river.

Canadian Pacific Railroad staff intend to remove the three locomotives still in the river this evening. When accomplished, determination can be made of diesel fuel that leaked.

Floating booms and absorbent pads remain in place to capture as much diesel fuel as possible.

The DNR will continue to monitor the situation and cleanup, and consider appropriate enforcement action.
