Let's Go Fishing on Independence Day
Posted: 07/02/2013
Join me in celebrating our independence by going fishing on our greatest national holiday – July 4.

Fishing this spring and summer has been exceptional, from our renovated lakes in the south to the natural lakes and trout streams across the north. We are experiencing a banner fishing year.

Nearly 25 percent of our 3 million fellow Iowans are anglers. If you don’t fish, consider this a personal invitation to join us.

Fishing reduces stress and allows us to unwind from the demands of our everyday life. If you are new to fishing, we have some videos online that provide instruction for how to select proper equipment, bait and locations at www.iowadnr.gov/fishing

Going fishing is part of a healthy lifestyle and a great way to get in touch with our natural resources. Eating fish is also part of a healthy diet.

We could all use more time in the great outdoors and the upcoming holiday is a perfect time to start.
I hope to see you on the water.
