DNR Posts Iowa Water Plan on Internet
Posted: 01/31/2013
DES MOINES ― The DNR has created a website for Iowa Water Plan documents at to provide everyone access to how the DNR manages the state’s water resources.

“Comprehensive water planning is a huge task to undertake at one time,” said Bill Ehm, division administrator for the DNR’s Environmental Services Division. “In recent years plans have been written to address particular water concerns of the Iowa General Assembly. We’ve combined those plans with background reports like the legal responsibilities of federal, state and local governments already on the books, so that Iowans can understand the considerations that go into water planning by reading about it chapter by chapter.”

Documents on the website include the report on mitigating flood risk created by the Water Resources Coordinating Council in 2009, Water Rights and Allocation, Iowa’s Water Monitoring Plan, Iowa’s Nonpoint Source Management Plan, the State Water Trails plan and historical efforts at water planning.

Plans under development, such as the final Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy and a plan for water resources management during severe drought, will be available from this page when they are completed.
