The Elliott Source Water and Wetland Project, Outdoor Classroom/Shelter/Sundial and Trails project has been in the making for several years. This project was initiated to help improve the quality of water in the Elliott Municipal Water Supply.  A Source Water Protection (SWP) team was formed in 2010, then a groundwater site investigation conducted by the IDNR’s SWP program, and next a plan was developed to identify and compare all the options available for decreasing risk to Elliott’s source water.

After reviewing the options and the cost, the Elliott SWP team chose to go the 'natural' way and let mother natural help lower the nitrate levels in Elliott’s source water.  The options were then presented to the Elliott City Council for final approval.  The council voted for the most economical and environmentally feasible option: a Wetland. Not only will this project (over time) enhance the quality of drinking water in Elliott, but the additions of the outdoor classroom/shelter, sun dial and trails will give the local Elementary school students and local citizens a hands on look at what Mother Nature has to offer.

Come join us for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Elliott’s Source Water Protection and Wetland Project, Outdoor Classroom and Trails!
