The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the 2013 Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) Rebate Program. The DERA Rebate Program focuses on providing financial assistance to public and private construction equipment owners for engine replacements or diesel particulate filters on older nonroad construction equipment.
Applications for the Rebate Program are due to EPA no later than January 14, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. CST. Interested applicants are encouraged to participate in a webinar on December 9, 2013 from 12-1 p.m. CST where EPA will cover details of the program and host a question and answer session.
Eligible applicants for this funding opportunity include regional, state, local or tribal agencies or port authorities with jurisdiction over transportation or air quality. Private entities that operate non-road construction equipment under a contract or lease with a public entity are also eligible to apply. Applicants must locate and operate their equipment in at least one of the following program eligible Iowa counties: Black Hawk, Harrison, Johnson, Linn, Mills, Polk, Pottawattamie, Scott, and Woodbury.
Eligible applicants may apply to install Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) on Tier 2 or Tier 3 engines, or they may apply to replace unregulated or Tier 1 engines with Tier 2 or Tier 3 engines. A maximum of five engines, using any combination of the technology options available, can be included on one application. Applicants are only able to receive a total maximum of $120,000 in rebate funding.
