Becoming an Outdoors Woman Workshop Registration Open
Posted: 07/09/2013
It’s time for women to answer their “call of the wild” by registering for the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop Sept. 20-22, at Springbrook Conservation Education Center, in Guthrie County.

The workshop is aimed primarily at women, but is an opportunity for anyone 18 years or older to learn outdoor skills usually associated with hunting and fishing, but useful for many outdoor pursuits.

“This year will be our 20th anniversary and we are planning a few ‘extras’ to help celebrate this milestone,” said Julie Sparks, Becoming an Outdoors-Woman coordinator for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

“Our BOW workshop is an excellent opportunity for women of all ages to try activities they may never have had the chance to experience,” Sparks said. “We have a wonderful group of instructors, our class sizes are kept small and the setting at Springbrook is beautiful, particularly in the fall.”

Workshop topics include basic fishing, fly fishing, birdwatching, archery, beginning shotgun shooting, basic motor boat skills, geocaching, canoeing, stand up paddling, Dutch oven cooking and more.  The cost is $150 which covers food, lodging and materials for the workshop. The registration fee increases to $180 after Sept 6.

Brochures and registration forms are available online at www.iowadnr.gov/Education/CampsWorkshops/BecominganOutdoorsWoman.aspx or by contacting Julie Sparks, at 515-281-6159 or julie.sparks@dnr.iowa.gov
