Macbride Forest Plan Meeting is Sept. 16
Posted: 09/03/2013

SOLON, Iowa — A public meeting is set for 6:30 p.m., Sept. 16 to hear comments on a forest stewardship plan for Lake Macbride State Park, west of Solon.

Comments from the public—especially people who utilize Macbride—is requested during the meeting, that will take place at the Johnson County Extension Service office, 3109 Old Highway 218 South, in Iowa City.

“The plan is to help guide management activities which will improve the long term health and resiliency of woodlands there,” explains DNR district forester Mark Vitosh. “It assesses the current conditions, threats and concerns for the woodland health.”

After that public input, a management plan will be established to achieve the park’s conservation and recreation goals.

The state park, in addition to the 900 acre lake, shows 1,000 acres of forest/woodlands, and 275 acres considered prairie, campground, picnic areas, parking lots and residences.

A similar plan has been undertaken at Wapello State Park. Another is being developed for the Volga Recreation Area.

For more information, contact Mark Vitosh, DNR district forester, at 319-351-8886.
