Stacey Hewitt, of Bondurant, and Dan Case, of Dallas Center, became the first two winners of the Healthy and Happy Outdoors promotion when their names were drawn from more than 1,000 entries Saturday at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ state fair building.
Hewitt won a FUN with Family and Friends Float package from Seven Oaks Recreation in Boone. Case won a kayak and paddling lessons from CanoeSport Outfitters in Indianola. Each prize package was valued at $500.
“Outdoor recreation is their livelihood and our passion and we can’t thank CanoeSport Outfitters and Seven Oaks Recreation enough for their partnership in Healthy and Happy Outdoors,” said Chuck Gipp, director of the Iowa DNR.
Healthy and Happy Outdoors (H2O), is a campaign to connect Iowans with outdoor resources as a way to reduce stress and improve health. Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds were on hand during the ceremony as part of the Governor’s Healthiest State Initiative.
Iowans can go online to www.iowadnr.gov/h2o
and find more than 30 types of outdoor activities at more than 1,600 state and county parks and recreation areas. Participants who register for H2O and log activities will automatically be entered for prize drawings. The more activities logged, the more entries submitted.
Iowans can learn more about H2O at a special booth where they can register to win a Honey Creek Resort State Park Adventure package for signing up with H2O during the fair.
The next prize drawing will be Sept. 3, for all entries logged by Aug. 31. The winner will receive an Iowa DNR State Park camping coupon book, valued at $112.
H2O will continue awarding monthly prizes through the year. Complete rules and promotional details are available on the H2O web page.
