The 2012 Spring Park Blitz is looking for volunteers to lend a hand in 12 of Iowa’s state parks on April 27 and 28. This event is a great opportunity for individuals and groups to help prepare parks for the busy summer season.
Many parks do not currently have the resources for extensive upkeep, so this event provides the extra help they need to beautify parks for summer use.
Last year’s park blitz provided AmeriCorps members the opportunity to reach out to local communities and renew their appreciation for Iowa’s natural spaces.
“Cleaning up my local state park allowed me to reconnect with the outdoors and remember what is truly important about our state,” said former member Jordan Vaughan.
Volunteers will collaborate with Department of Natural Resources AmeriCorps members on a variety of tasks to clean and ready parks for campers and other summer activities. Tasks will include trail clean-up, collecting litter, vine clearing, and more.
