Carbon Pollution Standards for the Power Sector
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been directed to issue a suite of Carbon Pollution Standards for the power sector. The DNR is currently listening to stakeholders and will provide updated information as it becomes available. The EPA public comment periods for the standards have closed, and EPA is expected to finalize the standards in mid-summer 2015. State of Iowa Comments on EPA's Proposed 111(d) Carbon Standards
Iowa Schedule and Stakeholder Participation:
On November 12, 2014 the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB), and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) jointly submitted the following comments on the EPA's proposed carbon standards for existing power plants:
Stakeholders have already started a dialogue on the 111(d) implementation plan. The DNR has drafted a tentative timeline for developing the plan and is requesting stakeholder feedback:

The next meeting will be held approximately one month after EPA issues the final rule. Because it is uncertain when the rule will be final, please add the two meeting dates listed below to your calendar. We will cancel one of the meetings depending on when the rule is finalized.
- Wednesday, August 19 (if EPA issues the rule by July 15)
- Wednesday, September 9 (if EPA issues the rule after July 15)
The meeting will be at the DNR Air Quality Bureau in Windsor Heights, Iowa. A meeting agenda with additional details will be posted after the date is confirmed.
