District-Wide Trout Stream Fishing Report
| Northeast Iowa streams are in superb shape and trout fishing has been good. As of last weekend, there were still Dark Hendricksons hatching in the afternoons, with a few Light Hendricksons as well. Blue Wing Olive and caddis hatches have also been excellent. Please call 563-927-5736 for current stocking information. | | Trout streams in Mitchell County are unfishable. Several bridges washed out. Dry fly action slowed somewhat with the end of the Dark Hendrickson hatch and high water issues. March Browns should be coming off towards the end of May or early June as it gets warmer. Try a #12 Brown Adams or similar large Drake pattern for the March Brown hatch. Good searching flies at present for rising trout include #16 and #14 Adams, Griffith Gnats or Caddis patterns. Wet flies and various streamers also work. |
