Water quality is one of Iowa’s top environmental priorities. The DNR is dedicated to improving water quality by partnering with communities, organizations and private landowners to create sustainable solutions on Iowa’s lakes, rivers and streams.
DNR water quality programs include:
Using a science-based-approach, analyzes and implements improvements on Iowa lakes.
Through partnerships, identifies and assists private landowners with improvement to watersheds.
Surveys and analyzes water quality for numerous Iowa lakes and rivers, including popular public swimming/recreation areas.
State Revolving Fund
Provides low-interest financing for a wide variety of practices that protect or improve water quality. If you have a project, we have a loan for you.
The State of Iowa requires any person manufacturing, storing, handling, transporting, or disposing of a hazardous substance to notify the department and local law enforcement of the occurrence of a hazardous condition.
