YHEC is a weekend-long event for youth ages 12-18 that incorporates competition, education, and fun. Youth from all over Iowa compete in four shooting events and four non-shooting events. Most youth compete as part of a team of five from their area, but youth can register as individuals as well. All participants must compete in all events, have passed a Hunter Education Course, and be an Iowa resident.
YHEC takes place each June; this year the event will be held at Wesley Woods Retreat and Camp Center near Indianola, Iowa.

There are many ways that adults may help. Volunteers are always needed as it takes over 50 people to set up and conduct all of the events at YHEC. Volunteers are needed to demonstrate special skills such as training hunting dogs, trapping, or care of game in the field to the participants during the evening or other program time. If you are a Hunter Education Instructor, you can put together a team from your area, coach them in the eight events, and register for the event. You may also want to donate to the event to reduce the costs for participants. All donors of $250 or more are recognized on the YHEC t-shirts.
