Construction/Park Lake Levels/Weather Related/Other Closures

Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - Webster County
  • EQUESTRIAN TRAILS CLOSED due to wet conditions. The all-weather rock trail around the lake remains open. TRAIL STATUS FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND: Friday, August 28, Brushy Creek received over 8 inches of rain. We are currently aware of 3 major culvert washouts on the trail system. We received another 1/2 inch of rain Tuesday night. Park staff will do their best to make the most urgent repairs needed, but drying conditions may not be favorable to opening this weekend when considering that large amount of rain. It is also likely that the River Trails will remain flooded. We will update our closure information when we are able to access more of the trail system as conditions improve through the week. If you have camping reservations and wish to cancel, please contact 1 (877) 427-2757 or go online to http://iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com/. The standard cancellation policy (2 days prior to arrival) will apply.
  • The swimming beach at Brushy Creek will be closed to public access in 2015 for a major beach renovation. The project includes a new road/parking lot, cabanas and a restroom. We apologize for the inconvenience. The Beach Campground will remain open and accessible.
Lake Macbride State Park - Johnson County
  • The Beach closes daily at 6:00PM and this includes the 4th of July.
  • Possible Beach Closures on Weekends and Holidays at Lake Macbride State Park Due to high visitation and limited parking at the beach area, expect a beach closure on weekends and holidays, access to the beach may be closed to park visitors for up to 2 hours. During these times, people in vehicles will be stopped at the park entrance and asked to return to the beach at a later time or asked to visit one of the other beaches in Johnson County such as Sandy Beach, Sugar Bottom, West Overlook or Kent Park. Make weekend and holiday plans accordingly.

Ledges State Park - Boone County
  • The Canyon Drive is currently closed to vehicle traffic. 1 inch of rain on September 2nd has caused flash flooding, making the stream flowing through the canyon area of Ledges rise to levels unsafe for vehicle traffic. Park visitors are allowed to hike into the canyon area at this time but be advised the stream is running at a high level & visitors are cautioned not to enter the stream on foot. The campground, trails, many other roads & parking lots, and both open shelters remain accessible by vehicle.
