Residential Tree Programs

Iowans who are interested in reducing their energy bills and adding beauty to their landscapes are encouraged to participate in the Operation ReLeaf® and Plant Some Shade® residential tree distribution programs. Operation ReLeaf is funded by Alliant Energy Company and is available to all Iowa residential Alliant Energy customers, and Plant Some Shade is funded by MidAmerican Energy Company and is available to all Iowa residential MidAmerican Energy customers. Both programs are administered by the Iowa DNR in cooperation with local partners such as county conservation boards, county extension offices and municipal parks and recreation departments.

Customers have the opportunity to purchase a variety of landscape-sized (3-8’) shade, ornamental and conifer trees at distributions throughout Iowa during the spring and fall. Trees are $25 each through Operation ReLeaf and $30 each through Plant Some Shade. Advanced purchase is required and orders are limited to two (2) trees per household. Spring distributions are held in April and May and fall distributions are held in September and October. Order forms are typically made available to customers 45-90 days prior to distributions.
