Minor source facilities located in the eastern third of Iowa must submit their Minor Source Emission Inventory (MSEI) for calendar year 2015 emissions to the Iowa DNR Air Quality Bureau by May 15, 2016.

Letters have been sent to all facilities required to complete this year’s report. A complete air pollutant inventory is required by Iowa Administrative Code (567) sub rule IAC 21.1(3). Air pollutant emission inventories are fundamental to the development of control and maintenance strategies required by the Clean Air Act to meet national air quality standards. The data collected is also used to identify emission levels and trends throughout the state.

Reporting forms and updated instructions can be downloaded from www.iowadnr.gov/MinorSourceForms. A list of frequently used emissions inventory resources can be downloaded from www.iowadnr.gov/EmissionsEstimateTools.

Minor source facilities with less than 100 employees can also contact the Iowa Air Emissions Assistance Program (IAEAP) at the University of Northern Iowa for training in order to complete the MSEI. For more information regarding training through the IAEAP, please visit http://msei.iwrc.org or call 1-800-422-3109.

The DNR has a new online reporting tool called the State & Local Emissions Inventory System (SLEIS) and can be found at https://programs.iowadnr.gov/sleis. SLEIS allows for simpler and streamlined reporting and also offers the option of importing emissions data via a spreadsheet template. Several SLEIS training videos and more information can be found on the Air Quality Bureau’s eAirServices webpage – www.iowadnr.gov/eAirServices (click on “Online Training Information”). Please send SLEIS-related feedback or questions to sleis@dnr.iowa.gov.
