History
For many years, the
Springbrook Conservation Education Center has included a fly tying/fishing component in special programs.
It has become a very popular activity which prompted the formation of this weekend event.
Participants age 16 or older (unless accompanied by an adult) will explore all aspects of the sport with hands-on activities including
tying flies, casting a fly rod, and hopefully catching the big one!
Agenda
The program begins at 9:00am on Saturday. It is designed to give inexperienced fly fishers and tyers a supportive and fun introduction
to the sport. Topics will include: safety, equipment, rigging tackle, knots, entomology, biology, tying, casting and catching! There will be
multiple sessions of fishing and tying throughout the weekend.
Facility
This program is headquartered at the
Springbrook Conservation Education Center, located an hour northwest of Des Moines, Iowa,
in Springbrook State Park. Diverse habitats and activities provide an ideal setting for this program.
Lodging
Lodging is in modern, heated dormitories with eight people to a room. Bedding and towels are provided, with shower and lounge
facilities in the dorms.
Cost
The cost of the program is $75 which covers lodging, meals, materials and associated activities. Each participant is also responsible for
