What can I use to take fish?

Gaff hooks or landing nets may be used to assist in landing fish. Rough fish (carp, buffalo, quillback, gar, sheepshead, dogfish) can be taken day or night, by:

  • hand fishing
  • snagging
  • spear
  • bow and arrow
What Cannot be Used to Catch Fish?

You cannot use to take or attempt to take any fish by:

  • grabhook
  • snaghook
  • net
  • seine
  • trap
  • firearm
  • dynamite
  • explosives
  • poisonous substances
  • stupefying substances
  • lime
  • ashes
  • electricity

You cannot take or kill, or attempt to take or kill any other fish by hand fishing except rough species (carp, buffalo, quillback, gar, sheepshead, dogfish).

Promiscious Fishing

When there is imminent danger of fish loss through natural causes, the Natural Resources Commission can order the taking of fish from any area and by such means they deem advisable to salvage such fish.
