This investigation determined broodstock densities, and assessed various
life history characteristics of the broodstock populations (e.g. age-growth,
mortality, etc.) for input into the General Inland Fisheries Simulator
Model (GIFSIM). This was the first year of a 5 year study so few results
are available. Simulations with the GIFSIM model will help determine
which natural lake walleye fisheries may benefit from special harvest regulations
and which lakes may not benefit from such regulations. These findings
will be of direct benefit to management of walleye populations in other
natural lakes, and will become an integral part of the overall strategy
for maintenance and improvement of Iowa's walleye fisheries.
