Coldwater Creek

Stocked by Decorah
Some Natural Reproduction
Easy Access Coldwater Creek lies just northeast of the scenic small town of Bluffton and drains into the Upper Iowa River. This entire area provides spectacular scenery and the Upper Iowa River offers fine canoeing. No trip to this excellent trout stream would be complete without a hike to the coldwater cave. This area will make you ask the question "are we in heaven?... no you are in Iowa"

Some natural reproduction of brown and rainbow trout have been documented on this stream. In fact, this is the first stream ever to have Rainbow Trout documented as naturally spawning in Iowa. Reproduction, however, is limited and would not provide enough fish to support the demand for fish by anglers, so the trout population is maintained by stocking.
